Almond Joy is a very simple candy bar. It's just sweet coconut topped with almonds and then covered in a great tasting layer of chocolate. This simplicity is overshadowed by its great, complex taste that is a combination great tasting coconut, chocolate and almonds. It's like a symphony in your mouth.
Almond Joy was originally made by Peter Paul. Peter Paul was a candy company opened by an Armenian immigrant in 1919. Their most popular candy bar was the Mounds bar and in 1946, they decided to add almonds to their classic Mounds bar and Almond Joy was born. In 1978, Peter Paul merged with Cadbury and in 1988, they were sold to Hershey. Hershey has kept the distinctive Peter Paul brand for both Almond Joy and Mounds.
